The most widely obtained type of mortgage is a fixed rate mortgage. The reason for the popularity of this type of mortgage is its stable interest rate. The interest rate doesn't change during the entire life of the loan which provides borrowers with a consistent monthly payment. If you opt for a fixed rate mortgage, there are a number of options that you may choose. These mortgage rate plans come in 30, 20, 15, and 10 year loan lengths. There is also the ability to pay a bi-weekly payment rather than a month to month payment. The disadvantage to a fixed rate mortgage is that the rate tends to be around two percent higher than that of an adjustable rate mortgage.
